Coneflower seeds starting to set on the Florida Green Roof

Long hot summers send signals to flowers to begin dropping their petals and start drying out, readying their seeds for dispersal.

The plants have provided nectar to attract the pollinators, who have in turn completed their task of spreading the pollen so as to make the seed viable.  Soon, what was once a prarie of beuatiful colors, flying insects and scents will become a real-time, u-pick seed catalogue.

This photo here is of some of the Breaking Ground Contracting Green Roof coneflower in various stages of setting seed, flower, flower without petals and drying seed head.

Nature is amazing.  Nature is even more so amazing on the Florida Breaking Ground Green Roof!
