Ceratina, Apidae, Bee ~ Another species arrives on the Green Roof
The Ceratina bee is closely related to the Carpenter Bee (see Catherine’s post about the BGC Carpenter Bee here)
Halictid Bee, Ceratina spp. on the BGC Green Roof – Biodiversity Expanding
Ceratina bee is also know as the small carpenter bee. The two belong to different genera, this bee is a Ceratina while the regular carpenter bee belongs to Xylocopa. They are both native pollinators and important to the wildflowers, cut flowers and food crops on the roof.
It is amazing just how much biodiversity an oasis-like green roof creates in such an otherwise barren urban core.
